8 Bison Meat Recipes for your Super Bowl Party
Maybe you have your super bowl party food traditions, enjoying the same food with the same people every year. But if you don't, or if you're looking to change it up, let me offer some amazing bison options!
Below you'll find eight of my favorite tailgating or game day meals, appetizers and foods. These recipes will work for small get togethers – just you and your family – or larger parties.
1. Bison Burgers and Hot Dogs
This is probably one of the easiest things you can do for your super bowl gathering. Form your patties the night before in whatever size you want. You can do sliders, quarter-pound, third-pound, half pound, or whatever size (or variety of sizes) works for your needs. Even easier, you can buy pre-formed bison burger patties from our website. These come in the 1/3 lb. size which you can buy in increments of 12.
Set out for your guests (or family) a variety of toppings: avocado spread, ketchup, mustard, onions, pickles, jalapeno slices, bbq sauce, cheese, to name a few possibilities. Then, when the time to eat rolls around, fire up the grill (weather permitting) or heat up the broiler or a pan on your stove and throw on the bison burgers and hot dogs. All that's left is cooking the meat and allowing everyone to serve themselves.
If you'd like to have this kind of party, check out our Bison Burgers and Dogs package. It has all the bison you'll need for this kind of gathering.
2. Bison Reuben Crescent Roll Appetizers
These little appetizers take a little bit of work, but they are full of flavor and surely will be gone before halftime. With all the flavor of a classic Reuben, these little roll-ups are conveniently finger food accessible. All you need for this recipe is some Gourmet Bison Pastrami, sauerkraut, thousand island dressing, swiss cheese and refrigerated crescent roll dough. View Bison Reuben Crescent Roll Appetizers Recipe
3. BBQ Bison Cocktail Meatballs
Cocktail Meatballs are always a great and easy appetizer to set out during get-togethers... and in my experience, they are always popular! Preparing BISON cocktail meatballs makes it even better! You can even prepare the meatballs the day before, and leave them covered in the refrigerator overnight. Then, bake them, put them in the crockpot with the sauce, and you're ready to go!
4. Nebraska Bison Stuffers
This recipe came from our 31 Days of Bison in July 2013 and it's one of my most favorite game day / fall / winter foods. It doesn't sound like anything too special -- ground bison mixed with cabbage, onion, spices and cheese baked inside bread dough -- but after spending a day making them and trying all those flavors mixed together, the result is surprisingly delicious! These take a lot of work, but are great for feeding a crowd. (They also freeze well.) View Nebraska Bison Stuffers recipe.
5. Bison Pastrami Pinwheels
This recipe is great if you have some extra Bison Pastrami in your fridge or freezer (perhaps after making some Bison Reubens?) It's a very simple appetizer -- and again, something you can do most of the work for ahead of time. Create the roll-up, store it in the fridge (wrapped in plastic wrap) and cut into pinwheels just before you are ready to serve. This recipe can also be adapted. Try other sauces or vegetables in it in addition to or instead of the suggested ingredients! This fun little finger food tastes great, and will be easy for guests meandering past the table on their way back from the bathroom to pick up and eat. View Bison Pastrami Pinwheels Recipe
6. Grilled Honey BBQ Bison Short Ribs
If you're looking for a recipe or meal plan that will really impress, consider these Grilled Honey BBQ Bison Short Ribs -- tender and delicious bison rib meat slathered with a sweet and tangy BBQ flavor.
7. Bison Sloppy Joes
Another easy meal for you to throw together and let your guests help themselves. Prepare the sloppy joe meat and leave it in your crockpot all day. Hungry guests (and family members) can feed themselves whenever hunger strikes. Set out hamburger buns, a few toppings such as pickles, mustard and ketchup and a few sides, and you're good to go! 8. Bison Kabobs
This is another recipe more associated with summer and the grill -- but it's a great recipe and may just be what you're looking for. I'm sure you could also adjust the cooking for a broiler if the weather prevents you from grilling.
The recipe calls for making these kabobs with our Bison Stew Meat, however, Bison Steak pieces would also be more than delicious on these kabobs. View recipe for Bison Kabobs.
