Saturdays Selling Bison Meat at the Farmers' Markets
We're very lucky that our two ranches are both nearby GREAT farmers market communities: The Haymarket Farmers' Market in Lincoln, Nebraska and the Farmers Market of the Ozarks in Springfield, Missouri.
Haymarket Farmer's Market (Lincoln, NE)
The Haymarket is a district in downtown Lincoln which has grown exponentially over the past couple of years, and it's only 30 miles from the ranch in Adams! The city has heavily invested in the area by adding a sports/concert arena which has led to new housing, retail and restaurant developments all over the area. It was incredible to watch the transformation, and the Haymarket is now the go-to place in Lincoln.
The streets are hopping on Saturday mornings from 8:00am to noon this summer, with (I can only guess...) thousands of people showing up for each Haymarket Farmers Market... especially if the weather is nice. We have our little booth set up on the corner of 7th street, across from the Creamery building.
While I (Stacy --- marketing director) am tasked with running the Farmers' Market in Lincoln, depending on schedules Jane and Randy (our owners) may be able to make a few appearances over the season.
Every Saturday morning through the middle of October, I pack coolers full of Ground Bison, Bison Burger Patties and Gourmet Bison Franks to bring down to the market. I also am sure to bring along plenty of Bison Jerky and Bison Dog Treats in addition to our exclusive Bison Steak & Burger Seasoning. Although, those products are my farmers' market staples, I will say I'm hoping to have a few surprises throughout the season in limited quantities, when possible
Farmers Market of the Ozarks (Springfield, MO)
We are represented in Missouri by our ranch location near Bruner: Miller Bison at Elkhead Ranch. This past week was our first week at the Farmers Market of the Ozarks in Springfield, and we were very warmly welcomed by vendors and patrons alike. The cool thing about the market in Springfield is that it is a year-round market with a permanent pavilion and an area being developed around the farmers market.
Farmers Market of the Ozarks which is just about 40 miles from our Missouri ranch is open on Thursday evenings (4:00pm-8:00pm) and Saturday mornings (8:00am-1:00pm). The market in Springfield is being run by Caleb and Klaire (our Missouri ranch managers).
Caleb and Klaire bring Ground Bison, Bison Burger Patties, Gourmet Bison Franks, Bison Jerky, Bison Dog Treats and our exclusive Bison Steak & Burger Seasoning to the market each week as well. Plus, they are more than happy to talk with anyone interested in coming out to the ranch for a tour, a stay in our guest cabin or a hunting trip.
Not only that, but they also bring along "Slim" a HUGE bison skull that stays in Randy and Jane's Missouri ranch house. Slim lived a long life (20 years!) on the ranch and died of old age.
We hope if you're in the Springfield or Lincoln area, you'll stop by our booth and spend some time walking around these great Farmers Markets and getting your produce and foods from local vendors.
So far, it's been a lot of fun for me to get up early on Saturday mornings and interact with the customers who are buying our product. I love working in the office and sending our meat all over the country via our online store, but it's also nice to be able to put faces to my customers and be able to talk with them person to person, share my cooking tips and hearing how they are incorporating bison meat into their lifestyle and meals.
Plus, it's always nice when someone I gave some cooking advice to comes up to me the following week and tells me how much they enjoyed their dinner!
