Cooking with the Bison Roast: 7 Great Recipes
Fall is a great time to start thinking about creative ways to use your slow cooker. It's the time of year when you start to think about hearty "comfort food" type meals that bring the family together over a steaming plate of something meaty and delicious. After a summer of BBQs and grilling, it can be fun to look forward to a fall and winter full of those wonderful meals that slow cook all day, filling our homes with the tasty aroma of what will be ready for us at dinner time.
A lean Bison Roast is a good piece of meat to start with for these types of meals. At NebraskaBison.com, we have several different choices of Bison Roasts: Chuck Roast, Rump Roast, Prime Rib and Brisket.
The Chuck and Rump Roasts are what would want to use for most of these recipes below and can be used interchangeably. Both have great flavor and tenderness, however, the Chuck Roast will have just a slightly higher fat content.
The Boneless Bison Prime Rib is an incredibly tender and flavorful roast that is great for serving on special occasions and can be very easy to cook. See the 4th recipe below for a great way to cook our amazingly tender Bison Prime Rib.
And finally, the Bison Brisket is a monster cut of meat at 5 lbs. The Brisket is a great choice for either smoking or slow cooking and can provide a variety of different meals. Bison Brisket comes with a thin layer of fat which cooks off the meat, leaving you with an incredibly tender and flavorful meat.
Bison StewAlthough at NebraskaBison.com we offer pre-cut stew meat, this is obviously also a great recipe to use with the Bison Roast. You'll just cut the roast in chunks yourself. This stew blends delicious flavors together including: bison, potatoes, onions, garlic, carrots, rosemary and red wine.
A Bison Roast will work well for plenty of other stew recipes as well, so if you already have a favorite stew, try substituting a bison roast in it next time for a leaner, richer taste. We'd love to hear how it goes!
