As we look forward to another year, we often find ourselves reflecting, and thinking about how we can better ourselves over the new year. Oftentimes, we set goals with good intentions, but find them too hard to keep and sink back into our old ways. This year… let’s change that!
Bison is a lean meat, low in fat, calories and cholesterol and high in protein, iron and other nutrients. Bison are raised without hormones, antibiotics and steroids and without added chemicals. And the best news about bison meat… it tastes delicious, making it a delicious way to keep your resolution of eating healthier!
Bison is easy to incorporate into your mealtimes, in fact, bison comes in the same cuts as beef, and can be prepared in many of the same ways — as long as you remember that low and slow is the key.
Today, I want to offer you 6 great recipes to get you started with bison meat, but if you are serious about incorporating bison into your regular diet, you may be interested in our all new bison cookbook: Cooking Bison. This recipe book includes over 50 recipes using everything from Ground Bison, Bison Steaks, Bison Roasts and more.
Recipe #1: Bison Steak & Vegetable Stir Fry
I love this recipe because it combines a lean bison steak with a heavy serving of vegetables and is best served with a side (or on top) of a steamed rice. It’s a fairly easy and quick dish to prepare and creates a full meal.
The recipe recommends using the Bison Top Sirloin, however, any bison steak that you have on hand will work great.
Recipe #2: Bison Chili
Especially this time of year, it’s hard to beat a bowl of chili. Using bison instead of other meats is a great way to make your chili just a little more lean. Check out the video below for step by step instructions for a basic chili, or simply replace an equal amount of ground bison meat for your usual protein in your own recipe.
Recipe #3: Crockpot Bison Roast
Cooking doesn’t get much easier than when you put your meat in the slow cooker and forget about it until dinner time. And that’s pretty much all it takes for this next recipe, using our Bison Chuck or Rump Roasts. (The Rump Roast will be just a bit leaner than the Chuck.)
Recipe #4: Bison Steak Fajitas
This is another great recipe which features lean bison steak mixed with a fair helping of vegetables.
Now is a great time to make the switch to bison meat! Try some of the recipes above, or add our cookbook to your next order for even more recipes!
